Myofascial Release

A truly unique therapy for addressing chronic pain and tension.

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release sessions include a series of subtle holds to gently unwind fascial restrictions throughout the body. The goal is to draw awareness to the sensations that within the body to determine what will be addressed next. Clients are often surprised when they get pain sensations far from the area we are actively working.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the net within the body that holds everything together. It is in every muscle, tissue, bone, and cell. When there is restriction in even one area of fascia there is often pain throughout the body.

What Causes Fascial Restrictions?

There is not one exact cause for fascial restrictions. Injury, surgery, poor posture, stress, and over or underuse of muscles are a few common factors for restrictions.

What to Expect From a Session

Myofascial Release is performed while the client is wearing athletic shorts and a loose fitting top/sports bra or bathing suit. No lotion or oil is used- this allows the therapist to work deep without sliding on the skin. There will be a lot of stillness as positions that create a fascial stretch are held for several minutes. Fascial stretches are often subtle but may include traction of a larger limb.

The nature of the work often brings up strong emotions for clients. Clients are encouraged to allow themselves to feel these emotions. Tears are a normal part of fascial release.

No Oil? Does That Hurt?

It might surprise you that this treatment hurts less than traditional deep tissue therapy. You may experience a slight feeling of pulling or friction as the fascia stretches, but you should never flinch away from myofascial techniques.

What to Expect After a Session

Every response to Myofascial Release is unique. Although it is gentle and subtle, clients may experience slight achiness for a day or two. They may also notice increased thirst or urination as fascial work often stimulates the lymphatic system.
